Life on the Lanai…

A balmy night, sweat sticks to skin,
A gust of wind is kicking in…
Chimes clink their tunes, the sky alight,
As lightning crashes out of sight…
But thunder BOOMS and clouds confess,
They’re lit up puffiness contends…
Soon comes the rain, as trees, they sway,
And dance to storms that brew at bay,
Just far enough to Still and Settle,
As tea bemoans an empty kettle…
“Fill ‘er up! And let’s get brewing!”
A storm, as such, it needs some stewing!
The soft clank of the clasp to flagpole
reminds me of my schoolyard days
And while I watch the world a’ churnin’
I’m yearnin’ for mere simple days…
But lest I get caught up in head,
A lightning flashes here instead,
Here inside the Present days of Life on the Lanai…

So here I’ll stay, upon this hour, the dusk it reaches piquéd tones…
Better contrast to ignite, delight in crashes, flesh to bone…
To feel the chill, make haste the rain,
A tempest sworn to swallow pain…
Or shall it rage? Let’s set the stage,
and see which players stick to page…
And me, I shall sit back and watch…
Observe the night and dewy drops…
And try my best to not have thoughts,
as thunder BOOMS and lightning taunts…
I’ll just sit as passerby,
A Soul to Squeeze before I die,
So I’ll just soak my feet and be…
As storms they come and go for me…

Inspired by that good ole’ porch life… Thunder and Lightning? Come and get me: I’m Powder, take me home! Here goes…

(Sidenote: The movie “Powder” really IS worth a rewatch… )
